<draft – in progress>
I count the hours till your morning time
For the night to creep away from yours to seep into mine
For me to see your icon rise to say you’re back online
“We’re like a life tag team” you wrote, and it made me smile
to read your mail though I’d just missed you
before my time to sleep.
And out there you bring the bright beaked turns,
the hoppy hoppy silver eyes and the chirpy brown sparrows to my window
and you make the ferns unfurl, with bees in the lemon trees
and you make the cicadas sing and sing
you make my whole world zing
and you bring
the light to my eyes, thoughts and appetites.
Even though I know,
the dark will come and the winter will come sooner or later
from your direction or mine
If I close my eyes and think of England…
If I brace myself, if I run, if I revel or resent it,
it will come
all the same
As the world rolls on
penumbra after penumbra
So maybe I’ll just go where I lead me
to the world un-veiled
and savour the unexpected
