As written by Aristotle, here are the views by Xenophanes (c. 565-470B.C.) on why God would look less like a buff Billy Connolly and more like an unhatched pokemon. As an atheist, his theory on the matter seems the most plausible:
“If God is the best of all, then, he claims, there can be only one. For if there are two or even more, then the one cannot anymore be the very best and strongest of all, because each one of the many gods has the same claim to this rank. In fact, godliness and godly power mean superiority, mean to be the best of all, and not to be surpassed… Hence there can only be God the same from all sides and everywhere seeing, hearing, and feeling. Otherwise the various parts would be superior and inferior to each other, and this is impossible. Hence such a universal homogeneity of God implies that he has the shape of a sphere… Since God has his existence in everything, uniquely and eternally, and because he is uniformly the same and round as a ball.”
I would love to see a protest march with people chanting “All hail the round god, god is a ball!”
